The Modicon CPU module 140CPU43412U is manufactured by Schneider Electric and is a part of the Modicon Quantum communication system. The Modicon Quantum system offers processing capabilities on your computing system. The Quantum system is a specialized system designed for real-time control necessary in manufacturing and industrial applications. The Quantum system delivers in a modular, expandable architecture using several modules such as the 140CPU43412U CPU along with the CPS, I/O modules as well as network interface modules.
The Modicon 140CPU43412U low-end CPU module has a max internal memory of 800 kBytes. It comes equipped with a key switch. It is managed with Control Expert programming software. Hot Standby topologies are not compatible this is the control module. It has two communication ports, 2 Modbus (RS-232), 1 Modbus Plus (RS-485). The processor for the 140CPU43412U is inter 486 and the bus current required for this particular module is 1250 mA. The max combination of support modules used with this unit is 6. The clock speed is66 MHz. It has a math processor on board.
The Modicon 140CPU43412U has unlimited I/O words and a max of 2 I/O racks. It is capable of 500 in and 500 out max words per network. The max word per Node is 30 in and 32 out with a max number of DIO drops/networks of 64. It requires a 3 V lithium battery.

The Modicon 140CPU43412U is used on the Quantum I/O rack. It makes use of a programmable memory to internally store the user instruction. This is done through a digitally operating electronic system. This system allows you to implement certain functions. Some of the functions you can add specific instructions to control are logic, process sequencing, timing, coupling, and arithmetic. Digital and analog outputs use the instructions to facilitate control over various types of machines and processes.
Low-end CPU modules have several common components. The model number and model description are both located at the top front of the module. Directly below the model number and description is the LED display. The battery is located below the LED on the front of the unit followed by the 140CPU43412U key switch. Under the Key switch is the area designated for the memory port and two slide switches. The two slide switches have three positions each. The top left switch is your memory protection switch. Used in the middle left the position or the bottom left position, there is no memory protection. The right slide switch is used for Comm parameter settings. There are three of them as well. The top right position is used for ASCII, the middle position is used for RTU, and the bottom right position is used for mem. Below the Memory port and slide switch, there are two connectors. The first is the Modus connector and the second is the Modbus Plus connector. There is a removable door available to cover the battery, key switch, and Modbus connectors. A label can be placed inside the cover for identification purposes.
