The high-speed counter module 140EHC10500, engineered by Modicon, fills your Quantum automation needs.
The Quantum automation platform offers the highest quality processors, and this controlled high-speed counter module is no exception. This module can freely count pulses at high speeds. It then takes these count values and communicate them to the CPU on each scan. When you install this module on your local rack, it also has the ability to asynchronously update the CPU to the scan. The asynchronous updates benefit you because the data is not transmitted at regular intervals, but at a variable bit rate. Data can be sent one byte at a time, keeping it from constantly transmitting the communication.
The Modicon 140EHC10500 comes equipped with five channels. This high-speed counter module can be configured in four different operating modes. If you are looking for an incremental high-speed pulse counting module, this module is a perfect fit. It is capable of pulse counting up to 100 kHz at 5 V ⎓ or 20 kHz at 24 V ⎓. By using the zoom screen in UnityPro you can activate the operating mode and configure each channel.
The first operating mode is the 32-bit event counter. This can be used on one or all the channels without having to specifically name latched or timed output mode. The next operating mode is the 32-bit differential counters. This mode uses two channels per function. It takes the difference between the two count values on each channel and then reports this information to the CPU. This module can be configured to take care of two differential counters. The third operating mode is 16-bit repetitive counters on one channel or all of the channels.
In this mode, the counter repeats the count when it reaches the setpoint. The final mode is 32-bit rate counters that occur on one channel or all of the channels.
In this operating mode, you get a rate that is sampled over a specific time interval. The time interval can be specified as either 1 s or 100 ms.
The Modicon 140EHC10500 has eight separate outputs available to you and they are included in the counter configuration. Each of these eight outputs can be triggered by a particular setpoint. If you prefer to program by count value, you can also configure by a programmable count value. This occurs in up count/down count operations. These configurable outputs can each be configured in this way: The output turns on at a setpoint, or the output turns on at a final value. Both of these two options can be either latched or as a one-shot. The third configurable output changes state on rising or falling edge applications and the final one is when the output turns on after you have specified a time delay from a final count value; 16,383 ms is the maximum.
