Schneider Electric BMXAMO0802 Overview

Schneider Electric manufactures the BMXAMO0802, an X80 Analog I/O Module with a 20-pin removable terminal block and eight analog outputs. The module has dimensions of (W) 32 mm (1.26 in.), (H) 103.7 mm (4.08 in.), (D) 86 mm (3.39 in.), with an installation depth of 119.5 mm (4.69 in.). The BMX AMO 0802 module has eight non-isolated channels and offers current ranges of 0..20 mA or 4..20 mA for each output, which can be selected during configuration. These products are manufactured in France and are designed for Material handling, packaging, and textile machines usage. They come with a 2-year warranty from MRO Electric. We also carry I/O Modules from other manufacturers such as Modicon and ABB.

The module can adapt the outputs through a physical connection to the process using a 20-pin screw terminal block and protect against voltage spikes. The signal is adapted to the actuators via software configuration, and conversion is performed on 15 bits with a polarity sign. The converter automatically and dynamically reframes the data provided by the program. The module transforms application data into data directly usable by the digital/analog converter using factory calibration parameters.

The BMXAMO0802 module manages exchanges with the CPU, including topological addressing, and receives configuration parameters for the module and channels, as well as numeric set points from the channels. The module sends module status back to the application and monitors itself for output power supply tests, testing for range overflow on channels, testing for output open circuits and short circuits, watchdog tests, and programmable fallback capabilities.

Output

To write outputs, the application needs to provide values in a standardized format of 0 to +10,000 within the 0..20 mV and 4..20 mA ranges. The digital/analog conversion is done using a 15-bit process for the 0..20 mA and 4..20 mA ranges.

Overflow

The BMX AMO 0802 module provides overflow control only for current ranges. The nominal range is the measurement range corresponding to the selected range, while the overflow area is situated beyond the upper threshold. Similarly, the underflow area is located below the lower threshold.

For the BMX AMO 0802 module, the overflow values for different ranges are as follows:

  • For the 0..20mA range, the underflow area is between -2,000 and -1,001, the nominal range is between -1,000 and 10,300, and the overflow area is between 10,301 and 10,500.
  • For the 4..20mA range, the underflow area is between -1,600 and -801, the nominal range is between -800 and 10,300, and the overflow area is between 10,301 and 10,500.

The option to select the flag for overflow of the range upper value, underflow of the range lower value, or both is also available.

Error Detection

In case an error is detected, the outputs can either switch to the Fallback/Maintain position individually or together, or they may be forced to 0 mA, depending on the seriousness of the error.

The error behavior of the outputs can vary based on different scenarios, including:

  • When the task is in STOP mode or the program is missing, the outputs switch to Fallback/Maintain mode channel by channel.
  • In case of communication interruption, the outputs may behave unexpectedly.
  • If there is a configuration error, all channels may output 0 mA.
  • Internal errors in the module may cause the outputs to behave unpredictably.
  • If the output value is out-of-range, the value may be saturated channel by channel, or the output may be maintained.
  • In the case of an output open circuit, the maintain mode may be enabled channel by channel.
  • During module hot-swapping when the processor is in STOP mode, all channels may output 0 mA.
