Additional Information
The Control Techniques Unidrive, model SP1404, is an electrical drive that requires careful handling due to high voltages and currents. It has a maximum continuous input current of 10.6 amps, which must be protected by a fuse, with an IEC gG 12-amp fuse recommended and a UL 15-amp fuse required. The module also has several cable size requirements, including 1.5 mm squared for the EN60204 input, 1.0 mm squared for the EN60204 output, 14 AWG for the UL508C input, and 14 AWG for the UL508C output.
The module comes with general warnings about electrical safety, as the voltages used in the drive can cause severe electrical shock.
The Unidrive is a component for professional incorporation into complete equipment or a system, but if installed incorrectly, it may present a safety hazard. Close attention is required to the electrical installation and system design to avoid hazards either in normal operation or in the event of equipment malfunction.
The Control Techniques Unidrive, model SP1404 has several functions, including STOP and SAFE TORQUE OFF. The SAFE TORQUE OFF function is a safety-related application.
Finally, careful consideration must be given to the functions of the drive that might result in a hazard, either through their intended behavior or through incorrect operation due to a fault. In any application where a malfunction of the drive or its control system could lead to or allow damage, loss, or injury, a risk analysis must be carried out, and where necessary, further measures must be taken to reduce the risk. For example, an over-speed protection device may be needed in case of failure of the speed control or a fail-safe mechanical brake in case of loss of motor braking.
Ensure proper use of the drive, remain in compliance with specified environmental limits and avoid excessive physical force. Install the motor following the manufacturer's recommendations. The values of the motor parameters set in the drive affect the protection of the motor, and it is essential to enter the correct value in parameter 0.46 motor-rated current, as this affects the thermal protection of the motor.
The brake control functions are designed to facilitate coordinated operation between an external brake and the drive.
Several parameters can significantly affect the operation of the drive. Alterations to these parameters should only be made after careful consideration of the impact on the controlled system.
Electrical installation Risk of electric shock Several locations within the drive have voltages that can cause severe electric shock and may be lethal. These include AC supply cables and connections, output cables and connections, and various internal parts of the drive and external option units. Unless otherwise specified, control terminals are single-insulated and should not be touched.
The drive contains capacitors that retain a potentially lethal voltage even after the AC supply has been disconnected. After the drive has been energized, the AC supply must be isolated for at least ten minutes before work can proceed.
