UD 51 Second encoder small option module for Unidrive These products are manufactured in United Kingdom and are designed for Metal production, paper processing, and material conveying usage. They come with a 2-year warranty from MRO Electric. We also carry Option Modules from other manufacturers such as Siemens and Yaskawa.
The small option module UD 51 Second Encoder facilitates the connection of a second encoder to a Unidrive. It is equipped with inputs for this purpose, as well as simulated-encoder outputs. This module can operate with standard quadrature encoders that have a maximum of 16384 lines per revolution, allowing a maximum operating frequency of 210 kHz, or up to 420 kHz for frequency and direction (F/D) signals.
When operating in either Closed-loop Vector or Closed-loop Servo operating mode in a Drive, the UD 51 can provide speed and position feedback for position control or digital lock. It can also accept frequency and direction reference input signals. Additionally, the UD 51 comes with simulated encoder outputs, which usually use the second encoder as the source but can be reconfigured to use the main encoder (Encoder 1) connected to the 15-way D-type on the Drive as the source. These outputs produce quadrature AB signals that correspond to the line counts from the source encoder and can be configured for frequency and direction signals.
To install, the UD51 must be fitted in the small option module bay of the Unidrive. All connections to the Drive are made by a multi-way connector. The connections from external equipment are made by a plug-in 16-way screw-terminal block on the UD51. Before installing the UD51 module in the Unidrive, it is important to follow certain steps to ensure proper installation. First, disconnect the AC supply from the Drive and wait for at least 10 minutes before proceeding. Then, inspect the UD51 to check for any external damage and ensure that the multi-way connector is free of dirt and debris. If the module is damaged or dirty, it should not be installed in the Drive.
Next, remove the terminal cover from the Drive as per the instructions provided in Chapter 2 of the Unidrive Installation Guide. Once the cover is removed, position the multi-way connector on the rear of the UD51 over the connector in the Drive and push the module into place using the thumb pad. Then, reattach the terminal cover to the Drive. After that, reconnect the AC supply to the Drive, and set parameter .00 to 149 to unlock security. Check that parameter 16.01 is set to 2, indicating that the module is properly installed. If the check in step 8 fails, there are several steps to take. The first thing to do is remove the AC supply from the Drive. Wait for at least 10 minutes and then remove the terminal cover. Ensure that the UD51 is fully inserted, replace the terminal cover, reapply the AC supply, and check again that parameter 16.01 is set to 2.
