The Modicon 140CRP93100is an integral part of the Ethernet RIO architecture. It is a part of a simple daisy ring also known as a daisy train loop. The simple daisy ring is made with a local Quantum Ethernet drop, and Quantum or Modicon X80 Ethernet RIO drops containing a CRA drop adaptor using the 140CRP93100 as the RIO head-end adaptor.
You must install and use a MA0185100 T-connector 10 for the reason that it is required for each I/O drop on the system. The reason why the T-connector is required is that it allows for you to electrically isolate the drop from the trunk cable as well as protect the system from any possible impedance match that is not correct and in addition to impedance problems, it is a safety net for possible cable disconnections. Between the trunk cable and each I/O drop, there is a required minimum signal strength of 14 dB.
As the signal on the trunk crosses a T-connector it has a loss of less than 1db. There is a possible total of 35 dB from the head-end RIO CPU. The totality of the cabling system must not go above this allowable architecture limit.
If your system requires high availability, Schneider Electric has an available solution to that problem; make use of redundant cables which are available to give you protection against cable breaks. It also allows a safeguard from any possible damaged connectors. In that way, when two cables are connected between the host and each drop, you can have a break in the first cable and that break will not disrupt your communication. If you do happen to have a cable break, when that occurs you will notice the status bit is set to 1.
That will indicate to you that there is a problem drop or a cable that has some sort of fault. If you are interested in preventive maintenance, you will find the system also provides counter values. This is in place for all communication transactions to all drops. If you find high counter values on a cable in any specific drop, this could indicate to you that there are problems with the connection. With this high level of forethought, you will be able to identify the work that will correct the problem and then be able to initiate a scheduled time to react before you are dealing with unwanted downtime.
