The Siemens SINAMICS S 120 module 6SL3040-1LA01-0AA0 is a CU310-2 control unit. The CU310-2 control unit is responsible for the communication interface function within the system.  This CU310-2 PROFINET unit is the control module for single motor drives.  The functions of the drive must be in open-loop and closed-loop control functions for the single motor drive.  What does it do for the Power Modules?  It controls the Power Module.  The Power Module must be used in the block size format or the chassis format. It does this by way of the PM – IF interface. The interface that goes to the Power module is located in the back of the CU310-2 (PM-IF).

A list of the type of interfaces found on the module includes isolated digital inputs. There are eleven of the isolated digital inputs. This unit has non-isolated digital input and outputs as well. There are eight of these non-isolated digital inputs and outputs. It has one isolated digital output as well as one non-isolated analog input. The number of X100 DRIVE-CLiQ interfaces to transmit and receive data is one. It has two PROFINET external communications interface. It has one X22 serial interface (RS232) to receive and transmit data and the maximum data rate is 120 kBaud at a load capacity of 1.0 nF/ 20kBaud at a load capacity of 2.5 nF. It also has one encoder interface (HTL/TT/SSI) with a 15-pin Sub-D socket for connection. Make sure to connect the KTY temp sensor with the right polarity to ensure safety. You can connect the temperature sensor in one of two ways.  Either via X120, terminals 1 and 2, or via X23, pin 1 and 8.  In order to connect using LAN (Ethernet), it has one port for that as well.  There is an X120 digital input (fail-safe)/ EP terminal /and one temperature sensor input.  There are three measuring sockets. The terminal is spring-loaded on terminal 1. The most you can cross-section connect is 1.5. (DI: digital input; DO: digital output; F-DI: Fail-safe digital input.) A note regarding fail-safe digital inputs: The F-DI has both a digital input and a second digital input.  That is where the optocoupler is connected through the cathode.
