The SP4402 400 V, the dual-rated drive is manufactured by Control Techniques for the UNIdrive line of AC drives. For normal duty, the application uses self-ventilated induction motors, must be capable of low overload, and should not require full torque when used at low speeds. For heavy-duty, the application needs constant torque or need to be capable of high overload, need full torque at low speeds. In heavy-duty, which is the default, the thermal protection is set to protect both the induction motors and the servo motors. These products are manufactured in United Kingdom and are designed for Metal production, paper processing, and material conveying usage. They come with a 2-year warranty from MRO Electric. We also carry AC Drives from other manufacturers such as Siemens and Yaskawa.
The Control Techniques SP4402 400 V (380V to 480V ±10%) drive module has a normal duty max continuous output of 83 A. The normal duty nominal power at 400 V is 45 kW. The normal duty motor power rating at 460 V is 60 hp. The normal duty peak current for the SP4402 is 91 A.
For heavy-duty, the Unidrive maximum continuous output current is 74 A. The open-loop peak current in heavy-duty is 111 A, and the closed-loop peak current in heavy-duty is 129.5 A. The nominal power at 400 V is 37 kW and the motor power at 460 V is 60 hp in heavy-duty mode.
On the top left front of the Control Techniques SP4402 is the AC supply connection. Next to the AC supply connection, to the right, are the DC supply connections. The internal EMC filter is under the AC supply connection. The front bottom features of the Unidrive SP4402 are the motor connectors and the brake resistor. They are on the left front and middle respectively, followed by the low voltage DC mode enable area which is located on the front bottom right.
The Control Techniques SP4402 utilizes option modules for optimum performance. The option modules available for the SP4402 Unidrive include several color-coded solution modules. There are five feedback option modules, seven automation I/O expansion modules, 5 application modules for automation, and nine Fieldbus solutions modules. The SP4402 also has keypad options.
The Control Techniques SP4402 is engineered for installation in an enclosure. A couple of mounting options include IP54 as standard or through-panel mounting. Features to consider when installing are the enclosure sizing and layout, the option solutions module fitting and how that will fit into the enclosure, the torque settings, and finally the location of the terminal. The IP rating of the SP4402 depends on the installation of the drive.
There are protections to consider for installation including moisture levels in the drive installation area. This includes spraying and dripping water as well as condensation. Another consideration is contamination with materials that are electrically conductive or dusty areas that could tamper with the fan’s ability to cool. It should not be installed in areas that could potentially have prohibitive airflow or exposure to corrosive gasses. The Control Techniques drive should be used and stored in ranges specified in the user manual.
