The Universal variable speed drive module 3402 is a Control Techniques manufactured AC servo drive. Choosing the correct variable speed drive for your needs requires knowing the specifics of the module. The 3402 variable frequency drive unit has a 400 V rating. This three-phase drive has a supply voltage of 380/480 V AC. It has a 30 hp rating for normal duty. The output current for normal duty is 43 A. This unit’s operation mode is open-loop vector control with V/Hz control, closed-loop induction motor control, regenerative control, servo control, and rotor flux control.
The SP 3402 3-phase motor drive unit has an IP 20 enclosure rating. The dimensions of this unit are 15.3” x 9.8” x 10.2” with a weight of 33.1 lbs. The ambient temperature range is 32° F to 104 ° F.
It comes with 3 analog inputs and 3 digital inputs. It has one safety input (STO). Using encoder technology for feedback, it has incremental/ absolute encoder type as well as onboard PLC function. You will find dynamic braking transistor capabilities and an SM-keypad option available.
The SP3402 is made to be a part of a complete equipment system. Installation recognizing safety hazards is imperative for secure operation.
How does a motor go from having a set speed to increasing the speed in varying ways? Variable speed drives are what you need for taking your motor from a set speed to a varying speed depending on your needs. It changes the controlled speed at which the motor operates.Variable speed drives are highly efficient at reducing your energy needs as controlling the speed keeps you from using motor power unnecessarily.
A beneficial quality of the variable speed drive is that they help to control the noise generation and can serve you by keeping fans from carrying too heavy a load which can cause a surge. When a load surges it can become unstable. If the fan becomes unstable you can run into problems such as violent pulses. Violent pulses could potentially damage your equipment. Another beneficial quality is that it helps keep the wear on your machinery to a minimum, particularly concerning your bearings and belts.
Variable speed drives work well not only with fan units, but you will find them useful with pumps. They help to control the pumps on variable flow pumping systems. They can also control the compressors used in refrigeration where centrifugal chillers are used.
These drives can control motor power by adjusting things such as voltage and frequency. It takes the place of the starter because it can start with the added benefit of overload protection built right in. It protects against faults with the machinery. Faults can range from things such as under-voltage or ground fault to loss of phase. You can also program your drive to give you a soft start of the motor. That will protect you from current rushes. It also alleviates wear and tears on belts.
The Control Techniques SP3402 Unidrive module comes with a two-year warranty.
